Sting has been with AEW for over three years and is currently part of a prominent storyline as he will be retiring this week. In light of his retirement, WWE’s stance on stars attending his retirement match has been revealed.
In case you didn’t know, Sting will have his final match on March 3rd at AEW Revolution 2024 and the WWE Hall of Famer is scheduled to partner with Darby Allin to defend their AEW Tag Team Championships in a tag team tornado match against the Young Bucks.
Kevin Nash recently revealed that he will not be able to attend Sting’s retirement match, claiming that WWE wouldn’t allow him to go there, but later on clarified why he won’t go there. Nash claimed that his contract with WWE won’t allow him to witness his friend’s retirement match live at AEW Revolution 2024. However, he wishes to make an appearance at the Greensboro Coliseum on March 3.
“He asked me to be a part of it, I just said that … you know, with my positioning with WWE I couldn’t -– I couldn’t even be … If I went in the crowd, it would be … you know? I asked [WWE] –- you know when you ask and there’s that three-second pause? It’s like when you be on the road and you’re like, ‘Hey babe? We’re at Fort Wayne, I’m gonna go to Stewie’s Strip Joint, you got a problem with that?’ Nothing.”
This made fans wonder if anyone associated with WWE would ever go to Sting’s retirement match. According to Sean Ross Sapp behind Fightful’s paywall, it was noted that they were not told about WWE prohibiting talent from attending Sting’s final match.
”Fightful has not been told that wrestlers from other companies, specifically WWE, cannot attend Sting’s retirement match.”
Sting will have his final match on March 3rd at AEW Revolution 2024 and fans might get to see Lex Luger attend the event as well. It remains to be seen how Sting’s final match in AEW will turn out.
