Austin Theory has a bright future in WWE but things haven’t exactly worked out well for him as of late. Therefore, it comes as no surprise WWE has been urged to take Austin Theory off WWE television.
Austin Theory was heavily pushed until last year, even successfully defending his United States Title against John Cena at WrestleMania 39. However, the experiment wasn’t very successful, as Theory struggled to connect with viewers. Currently, he is aligned with Grayson Waller on SmackDown.
While speaking on a recent episode of his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff explained why WWE should not feature Austin Theory unless they have a substantial role for him.
Bischoff suggested experimenting with different characters and gimmicks while keeping him off TV to discover what suits the 26-year-old star best. He also expressed the belief that fans weren’t particularly interested in seeing Theory in his current persona.
“I’d probably take him off the air until I figured out what I really wanted to do with him, even if it took a couple of months of character work and exploration and trying different things and bring him back. Because the audience is still kind of resisting him just a bit.”
Judging by Austin Theory’s reaction to Grayson Waller on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, perhaps WWE will have them feud with each other. Only time will tell whether Theory will have anything substantial planned for him in the end.
