Vince McMahon is a subject of extensive debate in the annals of professional wrestling, surrounded by numerous narratives that frequently lead fans to question his decisions. In the midst of recent trafficking allegations against him, McMahon has faced accusations of utilizing WWE TV time to seek retribution against talent.
Vince McMahon is currently facing accusations of sexual trafficking and misconduct from former WWE employee Janel Grant. In her lawsuit, Grant alleges that McMahon distributed explicit content of her without consent, implicating other WWE personnel, undisclosed executives, and wrestling stars.
Following Ashley Massaro’s death in 2019, her affidavit revealed a troubling incident during a WWE mission to support troops in the Middle East, where she claimed to have been drugged and sexually assaulted by a US Military member. Massaro asserted that Vince McMahon instructed her to stay silent to protect WWE’s military relationship.
In 2019, as the story gained attention after Massaro’s passing, WWE expressed sadness and clarified that Vince McMahon and WWE management were unaware of the incident described in Massaro’s affidavit.
For those unfamiliar, Ashley Massaro was once involved in a backstage segment with Vince McMahon. In this incident, Ashley accidentally spilt coffee on Mr. McMahon, leading to his extreme anger. As part of the storyline, Vince McMahon suspended Ashley indefinitely and yelled at her while she cried intensely.
While speaking on Cafe de Rene, former WWE Superstars Chris Masters claimed that the embarrassing segment involving Ashley Massaro and Vince McMahon indicated that McMahon was utilizing TV time to retaliate against the superstars.
“When you look outside the Janel (Grant) thing, I think, actually the more important thing here is the Ashley (Massaro) thing, because, to me, the Ashley thing has been very eye-opening. To me, the Ashley thing has proven that Vince (McMahon) does use his TV time for revenge, to be vindictive, for some of his, you know, maybe fetish-type behavior. And like, so, all these times that we can trace back in history to thinking like, oh, or you know in the past, you could always see like, oh maybe that was just coincidental, or oh yeah! the timing was weird on that. All of those seemed to me that they were done with intent.”
Female WWE talent are also being contacted by multiple news reporters following Vince McMahon’s scandal. Moreover, McMahon’s future with WWE appears uncertain in the wake of the trafficking lawsuit, with no clear path for his return. It remains to be seen what will become of the former Chairman of WWE in the end.
