Since his two neck fusion surgeries in, Robert Roode has not found a way back to the squared circle. The former United States Champion wrestled his last match back in June 2022 following which his injuries kept him out of action.
However, this was followed by Roode becoming a producer in WWE and has been filling the role ever since. Roode had a neck fusion surgery back in December 2022, followed by one in October 2023, which seemed to be the end of his wrestling career. However, the star revealed that he was medically cleared to compete recently.
Though Roode is allowed to make his in-ring return, in an interview on the Insight podcast, he ruled out any plans to return to action anytime soon. The former 24/7 Champion revealed that he was enjoying his role as a producer in the company which was always his ultimate goal.
In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Roode revealed that he was up for another WWE match. However, he specifically wanted to face AJ Styles in a first-time-ever match when he returned.
“You never know. I really wanted that, I really did. There was a moment in the last Royal Rumble I did, the one in St. Louis. I think I came in early, four maybe, and we had a moment, AJ and I had a moment, and there was some rumblings, people kind of remembered, but it quickly went away. I got eliminated or whatever.”
“I’m all about story, there’s got to be a reason, right? There’s got to be people who need to be emotionally invested in this, I want people to care, I want some meat on the bone there. I think AJ would definitely be that guy, we never had the opportunity to work in a singles match.”
Robert Roode doesn’t seem to be interested in returning to the squared circle unless he gets AJ Styles as his opponent. With Triple H in-charge, WWE might present an opportunity for a singles match between both if Roode agreed to it. However, it will all depend on the former United States Champion’s health.
