After getting released by WWE in September last year, Nic Nemeth bided his time for the right opportunity. In 2024, he joined NJPW and swiftly gained acclaim. His victory at New Beginning in Sapporo secured the IWGP Global Championship, and the announcement for his inaugural title defense has now been made.
Nic Nemeth sparked a rivalry with David Finlay at Wrestle Kingdom 18 last month. This feud resulted in the announcement that Nemeth would challenge Finlay for the IWGP Global Championship at NJPW New Beginning in Sapporo on February 23rd.
In a compelling match, Nemeth and Finlay both put it all on the line to pick up the win. Ultimately, Nemeth emerged victorious by hitting the Danger Zone on Finlay, claiming the title of the new IWGP Global Champion.
A week before New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Windy City Riot event in Chicago, the company is set to hold their Sakura Genesis show in Tokyo. It has been officially announced that the recently crowned IWGP Global Champion, Nic Nemeth, will defend his title against Hiroshi Tanahashi on April 6.
Nic Nemeth even admitted that he almost retired before becoming the IWGP Global Champion. Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see how The Wanted Man will perform in his first title defense.
