Released from WWE in September of last year, Nic Nemeth patiently waited for the right opportunity. In 2024, he made his debut with NJPW and quickly rose to prominence. Today, at New Beginning in Sapporo, he secured the IWGP Global Championship. Afterwards, Nemeth stated that he would have retired if he hadn’t won the title.

Nic Nemeth initiated a feud with David Finlay at Wrestle Kingdom 18 last month. This feud led to the confirmation that Nemeth would be challenging Finlay for the IWGP Global Championship at NJPW New Beginning in Sapporo on February 23rd.

Nemeth and Finlay engaged in a compelling match, each giving their best efforts. Ultimately, Nemeth secured victory by executing the Danger Zone on Finlay, becoming the new IWGP Global Champion.

In a post-title win interview, Nic Nemeth delivered a passionate promo, emphasizing the significance of his victory. He went on to express that he would have retired from professional wrestling if he hadn’t become the champion.

”I wanna thank New Japan for giving me a chance. I hadn’t proven myself outside of a bubble, I hadn’t proved myself in the last five years, and I didn’t know if I could still go. New Japan, sight or scene, said if you got it, it’s sink or swim. You got a chance to put it on the line, everything I worked for in the last 20 years was on the line tonight. If I didn’t back it up, I was done. I told myself I was done, I was gone, I’m retired.”

This marks the former WWE Superstar’s first title win in a while, highlighting Nic Nemeth’s lasting impact in NJPW. It will be intriguing to see how he is booked as the IWGP Global Champion in the coming months, as fans are excited to see how Nemeth will show the world how good he really is.
