Mike Santana, who made a triumphant return to AEW in August of last year, has been absent from AEW television for an extended period. While he remains absent from AEW television, he had another triumphant as he celebrated being sober for 1 year.
In case you weren’t aware, Santana and his former tag team partner Ortiz engaged in a memorable and deeply personal feud on AEW Rampage last year, highlighting their exceptional promo skills. Santana secured victory in their No Disqualification match on the October 25th edition of AEW Rampage. Despite this significant win, Santana has been noticeably absent from AEW television since that time.
In the meantime, Santana took to Twitter and wrote a lengthy message, revealing that he has been sober for one year and celebrated this huge milestone by showing his vulnerable side. He also expressed gratitude to his friends and family who supported him through this hard time.
”A year ago today, was the day I hit rock bottom. The day that I realized it was time to turn around and face those demons that I’ve ran from for years. The day that I made the decision to change or 1 was going to lose my life, my family, my career and everything I worked so hard to build. It was the day that I decided to finally take care of myself after year of just taking care of others.
I checked myself into rehab.””And I can tell you here and now, that it was truly the greatest hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life. I learned more about myself in those 30 days than in my lifetime. I learned to finally let go of the pain and trauma 1 carried around for so long. It taught me to genuinely love myself. To live and not ust exist. Along with so many other great things. I also say that my injury was God’s greatest gift to me. Because that time is what gave me and made me who l am today. I can go on and on about my sobriety journey because its been exactly that. And maybe one day open up more about it.”
”But I just want to take the time to appreciate this ccomplishment. I actually struggled a bit with sharing this ith the world, as it was something I dealt with in private nd away from everyone. But if I can help give strength and ope to someone else with my story and journey, then so be it. We’re taught that what helps us is giving away the gift tha as so freely given to us. So that’s what I’ll do whenever I can.”
”I want to say thank you to God and my father for continuing o guide me. My amazing family for sticking by me and !ways seeing the light that I carried inside, even thru all the arkness. And all those who offered their support during hose dark times. Much love to you all.”
Mike Santana is still part of AEW while he is still taking independent bookings. Only time will tell what the future holds for the former tag team star, as fans want him to succeed in AEW. Regardless, we would like to congratulate Mike Santana on this major milestone in sobriety.
