Swerve Strickland, a prominent member of the AEW roster known for his impressive in-ring skills and charismatic character work, has seen increased prominence since his feud with Adam Page last year. He is one of the biggest stars in AEW now and an argument has been made for him to be the face of the company.
Swerve Strickland is currently on a quest to become the AEW World Champion after his excellent matches with Adam Page, especially at Full Gear last year. Even now, his blood feud with Adam Page has spilled over to his angle with Samoa Joe as well.
While speaking on his 1 of A Kind podcast, WWE Hall of Famer RVD made it clear that he feels Swerve Strickland can be the face of AEW. RVD thinks highly of Swerve in the dressing room, emphasizing his wrestling skills, character, and fan appeal.
While Swerve may not be the most famous on the roster, RVD believes he could bring excitement as champion, acknowledging the importance of ticket sales and expressing confidence in Swerve’s potential path to success.
”Sure, I mean, I look around the dressing room, I’m thinking why not Swerve, you know what I mean? Swerve’s a great wrestler, character, cool dude, fans love him, he’s gonna give you good matches. Is he the most famous or well known person on your roster? No. Obviously, that is seldomly a #1 goal for any promoter but it is a factor because you wanna sell tickets. I don’t know who’s held the AEW belt and I’m sure, not to talk down on anybody, but I’m sure it’s been held by lesser wrestlers than Swerve is. He’s on a great path, either way. I think if he was champion, then people would be behind him and be pretty stoked.”
Swerve Strickland is set to square off against Adam Page and Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship at the Revolution pay-per-view next month. We will have to wait and see whether he will end up becoming the new champion.
