Gunther won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June 2022 and eventually became the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history, something WWE universe never fails to mention. He was part of a big match on RAW this week where he shockingly lost. Afterwards, Gunther broke his silence on the matter.
During this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, Gunther and The rest of Imperium competed in a six-man tag match against Jey Uso and The New Day. Shockingly enough, the match concluded with Jey Uso securing the victory for his team by pinning Giovanni Vinci.
This marked a very rare loss for Gunther, even if it was just a tag tea bout. After the match, WWE shared a digital exclusive interview with Gunther on social media. The Intercontinental Champion acknowledged the victory of Jey Uso and The New Day, praising their tag team skills and recognizing them as the better team on that night.
“I think objectively we have to look at the rivalry with The New Day. Well, boys! I think this whole thing is a marathon, not a sprint. But honestly The New Day and Jey Uso, they both are two of the most successful tag team wrestlers in the history of this company and we lost to the better team today. That’s fine.”
Gunther also sees himself portraying the role of a James Bond villain in the future. We will have to wait and see how WWE will continue to book him as we approach the Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event.
