AEW has undergone significant transformations in recent years, and its collaborations with various wrestling promotions have yielded positive results. Therefore, in light of AEW’s expanding collaborations, Tony Khan has confirmed that CMLL will be involved in this year’s Forbidden Door event.
During a recent episode of Dynamite, AEW experienced an unexpected twist when a diverse group of CMLL luchadores, including stars like Mistico, Hechicero, Volador Jr., and Mascara Dorada, were provoked by Jon Moxley. These luchadores stormed into the arena, initiating a sudden and brutal assault inside the wrestling ring.
Since then, CMLL stars have been competing with the Blackpool Combat Club often now. With that said fans have been wondering if CMLL would be involved in Forbidden Door this year, as it has predominantly been a New Japan Pro Wrestling and AEW event.
While speaking to SportsGrid, AEW President Tony Khan was asked if CMLL would be involved in this year’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Khan confirmed that they will definitely be involved.
“Yes, 100% yes. I definitely want CMLL involved and practically anything we do there. There will be a Forbidden Door III. The AEW/New Japan partnership is 100% here to stay. Shota [Umino]’s tremendous. NJPW’s got a great young roster right now. President Tanahashi is a perfect leader for the organization at the right time. It’s great working with New Japan and CMLL. I definitely want CMLL involved in practically anything we do, they’re such a great partner already. It’s been great.”
As we near the Forbidden Door pay-per-view this year, fans are eagerly anticipating how AEW will integrate CMLL storylines into their programming. AEW is committed to making 2024 an outstanding year for wrestling enthusiasts, and the collaboration with CMLL will definitely be a huge plus for the promotion going forward.
