Conrad Thompson shared an interesting piece of information recently on the latest episode of his podcast, “Ask Conrad Live” on AdFreeShows.com. It appears, Conrad almost had a recurring segment on AEW during the company’s initial days.
Conrad shared that he had plans for a backstage interview segment, similar to Jim Ross on WWE programming. He had named the now scrapped segment idea, “Conrad’s Corner.”
“We did sort of freestyle when AEW was first starting with Dynamite,” Thompson said. What if there was a backstage interview segment, a recurring segment on programming that was called Conrad’s Corner or something. Think about the way, you know, we used to have the sit downs with Jim Ross on WWE programming.”
Conrad further went into the details and shared why the idea was scrapped. He said that it would have been like his podcast but with more in-character performance. However, things didn’t pan out due to Bruce Prichard going back to WWE. He noted the coincidence of the timing of the events with AEW starting in January and Bruce leaving AEW for WWE in February.
“So it would sort of be like the podcast, but more in character. That was at least discussed, but you know, that also would have meant if I did that, I probably couldn’t have done anything with Bruce anymore because AEW got kicked off in January and he went back in February, and isn’t that interesting timing that nobody ever talked about? AEW starts in January. Bruce Prichard goes back to WWE in February. One of those things that makes you say, ‘Mmm.'”
Despite the plans for the segment not materializing, Conrad’s ties with AEW run deep. He was at the early AEW press events back in 2009 and also worked with the company to put on Starrcast conventions. A fan on X recently asked Thompson about running a Starrcast convention in the UK during ALL IN weekend. He shared his excitement about the idea, but said AEW has other plans unfortunately.
“I would have loved to do that. AEW has other plans as I understand”
Conrad’s contribution to the wrestling scene has been immense and his involvement continue to shape the industry. You can check out his tweet about running a Starrcast convention again right below. Stay tuned to Ringside News for more!
