The Bucks came back during last month’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which was their first appearance since AEW Full Gear back in November last year. They also attacked Sting and Darby Allin on Dynamite this week and now have explained the reasoning behind their actions.
As seen on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Darby Allin and Sting challenged Ricky Starks and Big Bill to a tag title match in the main event of the show. While it looked like Starks had it in the bag, Sting ultimately prevailed and picked up the win for his team and thus, they became the new AEW Tag Team Champions.
The Young Bucks launched a surprise attack from behind, unleashing a brutal attack on the new champions. Darby Allin ended up bloodied during the vicious attack, but the onslaught didn’t end there. They even targeted Sting’s sons, leaving them incapacitated in the ring. The disturbing scene concluded with the crowd expressing their disapproval with boos as the aftermath of the assault unfolded.
AEW took to Twitter and uploaded a backstage interview of The Young Bucks after their brutal attack. They essentially laid the blame on Sting and Darby Allin for the assault, especially for ruining their suits.
“What a bummer, man, that Sting and Darby forced our hands and made us do that. That was awful, I feel terrible. Sting is a legend and Darby is a sweet dude.”
”As EVPs, we have to do the tough things, we have to make the tough decisions, we have to do it. Guys, there’s no one else in this company that would do what we just did. This is our baby, this isn’t Sting’s baby. He’s just happy making a payday, we had to do business and business was that.”
”We messed up our suits as well. Jesus guys, how are are we gonna take this blood out of our $5k suits? I called you a role model employee Sting, maybe I was wrong. This is what it took to get you guys’ attention? I just wanted a conversation and look at us, we’re covered in your DNA now. Not cool guys, not cool!”
It has been made abundantly clear that The Young Bucks will be facing off against Sting and Darby Allin for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at the Revolution pay-per-view next month. We will have to wait and see if they will defeat Sting in his retirement match.
