The Rock vs. Roman Reigns was initially planned for WrestleMania 39, but due to The Great One’s hectic schedule, he couldn’t be physically prepared for the bout. The match is now more or less confirmed for this year’s WrestleMania and it appears The Great One chose WrestleMania 40 as the venue instead of Saudi Arabia.
To build up hype for the already highly anticipated match, The Rock disclosed that discussions about a showdown with The Head of The Table are already in progress. Naturally, this revelation sparked a ton of excitement among fans.
However, many fans wanted him to face Roman Reigns after WrestleMania instead. That changed as The Rock confronted Roman Reigns on SmackDown last week after Cody Rhodes confirmed he won’t face Reigns at WrestleMania 40.
Saudi Arabia was initially eyed as the destination for the bout as well. While speaking Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that The Rock opted to wrestle at WrestleMania 40 instead of Saudi Arabia.
“Dwayne wanted it to be Mania and that’s true. There are people who thought it might be better on another show. I know people who suggested the idea of Saudi Arabia for Dwayne and Cody for WrestleMania, however Dwayne wanted WrestleMania.”
The Rock also wanted to save WrestleMania 40 with the Roman Reigns match. It remains to be seen how the match will be received by fans once WrestleMania 40 is upon us.
