Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams have been closer than brothers during their NXT run. Williams always had Hayes’ back and was instrumental in the latter becoming one of the top stars in the company.
During Hayes’ run as NXT North American Champion, Williams helped him retain the title several times. After playing the sidekick role for a couple of years, Trick Williams’ career finally took off last year.
His stock was rising and he found himself in the main event spot all of a sudden. A couple of months ago, Williams was ambushed backstage preventing him from competing in a number one contender match for the NXT Championship. For months, it remained a mystery who attacked Williams. However, it looked like that question was finally answered at NXT Vengeance.
After Trick Williams lost a grueling match against Ilja Dragunov, Carmelo Hayes turned on his best friend and brutally attacked his injured knee with the steel chair. The betrayal sent shockwaves through the NXT universe.
Tonight’s episode of WWE NXT kicked off with Carmelo Hayes who walked out to the ring with a steel chair in his hand. As he took a seat in the middle of the ring, fans wouldn’t stop booing him. The heated reaction from the crowd resulted in Melo saying, “not yet” before he left the ring without offering an explanation.
Carmelo then came back later in the show to explain his actions. He said that he was not jealous of Trick as he wanted him to be successful. But Trick betrayed him by going after the NXT Championship. Hayes then said that they are not on the same level. He also admitted that he was the one who attacked Trick several months ago. He said that since went behind his back for the NXT Championship, he had to put him in his place. Hayes then closed the segment by saying that Trick Williams was his hype and that’s the way it will be.
Carmelo’s cold explanation tonight on NXT did not seem to sit right with the fans who were constantly booing. We will have to wait for Trick Williams to return and respond to him. Stay tuned to Ringside News as we bring you live coverage of NXT.
