Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns have a lot of history together, as they debuted on the main roster as The Shield and eventually feuded with each other over the years. They have also been trading shots at each other and mocking their titles lately, and now WWE’s perspective on the jabs has been revealed.
After Cody Rhodes won the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble match, both Rollins and Reigns engaged in verbal jabs about each other’s championships. On RAW, Rollins proposed that Rhodes should face him at WrestleMania 40 instead of the Tribal Chief.
Rollins referred to Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship as a ‘Hollywood’ title attained through political maneuvering, emphasizing that his own title is meant for hardworking individuals, like Cody’s father Dusty.
In response, Reigns made an appearance on SmackDown to diminish the significance of Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship, which he has held since May of the previous year. Reigns asserted that Rollins’ title is merely a consolation prize for those who have been unsuccessful in dethroning him as the reigning champion.
According to Sean Ross Sapp behind Fightful’s paywall, two of WWE’s top superstars engaging in verbal jabs at the company’s top championships has not raised concerns among higher-ups. One executive mentioned, “Look who we’re in business with now,” highlighting WWE’s partnership with UFC through TKO, where such trash-talk is more commonplace.
The source indicated a desire to spark discussion among fans, noting that both champions have valid reasons to claim superiority for their respective titles. Ultimately, the decision on which title holds more validity lies with the fans—whether they prefer the defended title or the one with a richer history held by Reigns for over three years.
Seth Rollins’ WrestleMania 40 direction has also been revealed, while it is more or less confirmed that Roman Reigns will be squaring off against The Rock at The Showcase of The Immortals. It remains to be seen how WWE will continue to book their respective feuds in the coming weeks.
