AEW Collision was the third weekly televised show that Tony Khan started. The show had its first episode last year which featured the return of CM Punk.

Initially, the show heavily revolved around the Straight Edge Superstar. He was Collision every week until his departure from the company. Following Punk’s exit, Collision took a major hit.

The show’s viewership dwindled and ticket sales also went down. Once Collision lost its main star, CM Punk, it seemed as if the show was losing all its glow. With many relatively unknown faces appearing every week, it was getting harder for the fans to care about the show. However, Tony Schiavone feels differently about the show.

During a recent interview with What Happened When, Tony Schiavone stated that he felt sometimes Collision was even better than AEW Dynamite. He further stated that he enjoys working on Collision and with the commentary team.

“Lot of excitement about [AEW Revolution]. Yes, the shows have been good. Really, I really think that Collision has been great. It has been. They’ve been great shows, and I’m just really excited about, after we do the shows, I’m thinking that was a damn good show. Not saying overall it’s a better show than Dynamite, but at times, it is a better show. Some weeks, it is a better show. In the natural course of things, it happens like that, and some weeks, Dynamite’s a better show.

But I’ve been very, very happy about Collision. I really enjoy working with Kevin Kelly and Nigel, I really do. We’ve really developed a friendship, and we get along with each other, and because I do a lot of the announcing on Collision, I really do that much backstage at Collision. Tony [Tony Khan] told me, ‘Just be an announcer on those days.’ So I kind of go back and stay in the announcers’ room the entire day without running around, being a pain in the ass like I normally am. So those are good days. I really enjoy Saturday,” he said.

Tony Schiavone has a more laid-back role on Saturdays which could be a big reason he enjoys working during Collision. He sporadically does any interviews on Collision. On the 2/3 episode of AEW Collision, Tony Schiavone informed Bryan Keith that has been signed to AEW.
