AEW has been striving to capture the wrestling audience for a long time with its impressive television programming. One of those shows was launched early last year known as AEW Collision, televised on Saturday on TNT.
The show made its debut in Chicago, Illinois, in June 2023 and came to be known as the brainchild of Tony Khan, AEW backstage personnel, and even former star, CM Punk.
Over the months, Collision has seen the likes of talented young stars compete toe-to-toe with industry veterans. Moreover, Dave Meltzer recently revealed the vision and mindset of top stars behind AEW Collision on the Wrestling Observer Radio.
He mentioned that AEW Collision was a beacon of opportunity for underutilized talent to work with top-tier stars who are trying to get them over as the next big players of the company. He noted that it was completely opposite to the mindset of their premier show, AEW Dynamite where the majority of the spots were occupied by the biggest stars.
“Well, the thing with the thing with Bryan Danielson is that like – he’s a lot of things. The guys on Collision, with a lot of the guys, there’s a mentality on that show with the guys who were – you know if you want to call them the booker’s of the show or assistant booker’s because Tony’s the booker, but the assistant booker’s of the show. Their mentality is 100% ‘let’s get other people over but we still have to win. You know, their key guys, whether it’s Eddie Kingston, Bryan Danielson, can’t lose to hatch Hechicero. He’s trying to get these guys, whatever it is, a job or whatever.”
As seen, Collision has featured an equal influx of veterans like Bryan Danielson and Adam Copeland and young stars like Griff Garrison and Bryan Keith with the show gaining momentum as a platform to ascend to the next level.
