DDP believes that Cody Rhodes is the ideal choice to represent WWE, particularly during these challenging times for the company. Cody Rhodes has emerged as a prominent figure within WWE since his return in 2022, and his victory in the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble seemed to solidify his status. However, a recent twist on WWE SmackDown altered his WrestleMania 40 plans.
In an interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, DDP, a longtime friend of Cody Rhodes, shared his thoughts on Cody’s Royal Rumble win and his role as a representative of WWE. DDP acknowledged the existence of a “dark cloud” looming over WWE at the moment and expressed his belief that Cody is the perfect individual to carry the company’s banner.
According to DDP, Cody possesses the qualities needed to be a stellar WWE representative. He highlighted Cody’s strong family values, incredible work ethic, and his motto of “do the work” displayed on his championship belts. DDP also praised Cody’s resilience, mentioning how he wrestled through a torn pec in a 20-minute match against Seth Rollins, showcasing his dedication and determination.
“I don’t think, because we all know there’s been a little adversity, there’s a little dark cloud right now. I don’t know what happened there, I wasn’t there. I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what I do know. When you have anything like that happen, who are you looking at now to represent the company? I don’t think there’s a better person that can represent the company. Family values, work ethic is insane, all of his belts say ‘do the work.’ That’s what that they say on them. If doesn’t say ‘American Nightmare’, somewhere he’s written on it ‘Do The Work.’ It’s all about that. He wrestled with a torn pec and went 20 minutes with one of the greatest wrestlers ever, Seth Rollins, and made it through and came back from that injury. To get this spot, I can’t think of a better person in their company that I’d want to see.”
DDP’s endorsement of Cody Rhodes as WWE’s representative did not come at the expense of recognizing Roman Reigns’ status as a formidable figure in the company. He acknowledged Roman Reigns’ remarkable career and even shared an anecdote about Roman previously practicing DDP Yoga during his time at Georgia Tech.
“Taking nothing away from Roman Reigns because he has proved to be a demigod, and he really has. I watched him from The Shield on. He actually did DDP Yoga when he was playing for Georgia Tech, so that’s the first time I ever met Roman because I was working with the team. But this guy, he’s a demigod. He’s in the same vein of Hogan now and of course Austin and The Rock, all of it. But I just can’t see a better person, especially at this time, to represent the WWE.”
In DDP’s eyes, Cody Rhodes is the right choice to carry the WWE torch, especially given the current circumstances. He emphasized that Cody’s qualities and accomplishments make him an ideal candidate for this role.
As Cody Rhodes prepares for his Bull Rope match against Shinsuke Nakamura on WWE Raw, the WWE Universe eagerly awaits the unfolding of this chapter in his journey.
