The Rock is now one of the members of TKO’s Board of Directors, but he is still a WWE Superstar. He made his return on Friday Night SmackDown this week and it was essentially confirmed he will battle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.
The conclusion of this week’s WWE SmackDown was divisive, as The Rock confronted Roman Reigns. This took place after Cody Rhodes brought out the Hollywood megastar, apparently relinquishing his WrestleMania 40 title shot.
Fans were upset with this decision, as WWE’s top babyface was once again relegated to a secondary role behind a part-timer. Adding to the frustration, fans became infuriated with the idea that Rhodes might not conclude his storyline this year.
Even then, The Rock is still a draw and his return on Friday Night SmackDown drew 1,314,459 views in merely seven hours on YouTube, which is certainly an insane feat by all means.
Saudi Arabia was initially eyed as the destination for the bout, but things have clearly changed. We will have to wait and see if WWE will end up having The Rock beat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.
