The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes laid down a shocker on this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, by seemingly passing up the opportunity to finish his story against the Undisputed WWE Universal champion, Roman Reigns.
For an entire calendar year, the WWE Universe watched Cody rebuild his momentum following a crushing defeat at the hands of the Tribal Chief at WrestleMania 39. Rhodes was back on track following his second consecutive Roya Rumble win last week granting him another opportunity for a world championship match at WrestleMania 40.
When Cody Rhodes came to SmackDown to confront Roman Reigns, many hoped that the long-awaited match would finally be made official. Instead, the Prodigal Son stated that he would indeed come after Reigns, but not at the Show of Shows and right after introduced Roman’s iconic cousin, The Rock.
SmackDown ended with Rhodes exiting the ring and an intense showdown between two of the biggest WWE superstars of all time. However, since that moment, fans have expressed their displeasure over The Rock potentially stealing Cody Rhodes’ spotlight.
Not only that, The Rock Roman Reigns segment video attracted a majority of dislikes from numerous viewers. To make matters worse, fans continued the supposed ‘Justice for Cody’ campaign on a recent live stream WWE video, titled “Best of Cody Rhodes full matches marathon ” flooding it with negative comments and major support for the American Nightmare. You can check it out here.
“#CodyRhodes fans are spamming WWE’s live stream of “Best of Cody Rhodes full matches marathon ” YouTube video with “Justice for Cody” comments.”
With the fans voicing their support for Cody Rhodes amidst WWE moving into a completely different direction for WrestleMania 40, it would be interesting to see how this story unfolds in the weeks leading up to The Showcase of the Immortals.
Do you think WWE would reconsider their decision in regards to the main event of WrestleMania 40? Sound off in the comments!
