Cody Rhodes has unleashed a shockwave with his choice of words on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown. With such makeshift events, it appears that the creative direction for The American Nightmare is reportedly set in stone for WrestleMania 40.
After Cody Rhodes won the 2024 Royal Rumble match, he made it evident that it was the Undisputed WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns he wanted to go after. However, a continuous effort to persuade him to reconsider his decision by the World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins seemingly has changed everything.
The American Nightmare announced on SmackDown this week that he would come after The Tribal Chief, but not at WrestleMania 40. Right after, he introduced The Rock who ended the show with a stare down, standing across from his dominant cousin Roman Reigns.
The showdown might have pointed toward the direction WWE was taking for WrestleMania 40, without any clear plans for Cody Rhodes. However, a new report by PWInsider states that Cody is slated to battle Seth Rollins for his World championship at The Show of Shows.
“The current plan is for Cody Rhodes to face Seth Rollins at #WrestleMania 40.”
While WWE might have decided to embark on this route, fans have heavily criticized their decision to replace Cody Rhodes with The Rock for a match against Roman Reigns. With the road to WrestleMania already beginning to a turbulent start, it would be interesting to see how this story unfolds as the weeks go by.
