Samoa Joe defeated MJF for the AEW World Championship at Worlds End and immediately made it clear he would be a strong champion. He will only accept the best challengers and now he has addressed if he would give Sting a shot at his title as well.
Sting has been a constant presence in AEW since his debut in December 2020, and is set to retire at AEW Revolution this year. His retirement tour is in full swing and fans are simply cherishing the time they have left with The Icon.
While speaking with WhatCulture Wrestling, Samoa Joe stated that he considers Sting to be among the top four iconic figures in wrestling history. He expressed admiration for Sting’s impact, citing his painted face, corner splash, and the Scorpion Death Drop as iconic elements.
The Samoan Submission Machine mentioned that he would definitely give Sting a shot at the AEW World Title, highlighting Sting’s ability to stay fresh, relevant, and impactful throughout his illustrious career.
”100 percent. Would always give Stinger a shot at the World Championship, you know? But when you talk about Sting’s career in a whole, I think there are… iconic. It’s a commonly used term… Really, when you dip into your head and you think the iconic figures in professional wrestling, Sting, I mean, top four? Maybe even higher than that. He is kind of the embodiment of a lot of wrestling fans’ best memories.”
”He’s there, just from the painted face to the splash in the corner to the (Scorpion) Death Drop. I mean, so many memories, great memories in the industry are attributed to him and his work in the ring and to see him wrap up a career that he’s been successful with the entire time, it’s amazing to see a man live a career like that and to make a huge of an impact as he has in the industry, especially through the breath of his career and just, he stayed fresh, he stayed relevant, he stayed out there and you know, it’s an amazing feat. Not many will ever replicate it, probably ever.”
Samoa Joe and Sting have clashed before in TNA on numerous occasions as well, notably at TNA Victory Road 2009. Only time will tell if Sting and Joe will have one last bout before The Icon retires for good.
