WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan appeared in a pre-match vignette during the WWE Royal Rumble, marking his first appearance at the event for a number of years.
The former WWE Champion is one of the most successful wrestlers in Rumble history. Hogan is one of just four men to win back-to-back Royal Rumbles, alongside Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and Cody Rhodes.
Hogan has long been an admirer of Roman Reigns, and has worked a number of members of Reigns’ family over the years. The most famous time was when he faced The Rock at WrestleMania X8, in one of the best matches of all time.
However, it was Reigns who Hogan heaped praise upon following the Royal Rumble on Saturday. The two-time Hall of Famer claimed that Roman Reigns could wrestle anybody in the WWE, and stated he’d fit in “any era”, during an interview with Justin Barrasso for Sports Illustrated.
“It takes a really long time to be able to transition and pivot on a dime the way he does. That’s how he paints masterpieces you’ve never seen before. He’s working on a whole different level.
“Roman’s dad, Sika, he explained the ABCs of it all to him, watch his matches and you can tell. You can see it in the way Roman creates emotion, understands how to make the crowd mad, and how he puts people on the edge of their seat calling for that comeback. Roman Reigns learned this all old-school from his dad, but he adapted to the newer era, too. He can do it all.
“Roman is adaptable to whoever he is wrestling. That’s important. At any moment in time, he can switch gears on you. He’s amazing, and he’d fit in any era.”
Hogan will have been impressed by the Tribal Chief’s performance in Saturday. With the help of Solo Sikoa, he successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Randy Orton, AJ Styles and LA Knight in a chaotic Fatal 4-Way match.
