Cody Rhodes was one of the founding members of AEW and a big star there, but he wasn’t able to become the World Champion there. Not only that, he and CM Punk never had a program during their time together. In fact, Rhodes has now commented on the same recently.

The American Nightmare entered the Men’s Royal Rumble match last night with a lot of hope and determination to prevail. He would end up eliminating top stars such as Gunther and finally CM Punk in order to punch his ticket to WrestleMania 40.

While speaking during the post Royal Rumble press conference, Cody Rhodes was asked about not facing off against Punk in AEW and the opportunity to do so now that both are back in WWE.

The American Nightmare admitted that he believed he would have an encounter with CM Punk in AEW but it never truly happened and didn’t know the reason for them never interacting on AEW television.

“It’s funny that we meet back here. When we were at AEW, I thought we would encounter one another there and it didn’t happen. For whatever reason it didn’t happen. but I think both him and I had different personal experiences.”

Cody Rhodes also apologized to fans following his epic win at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event.  We’ll have to wait and see what’s next in store for CM Punk, as Cody Rhodes’ future is already booked for WrestleMania 40.
