For many years, NXT was an interesting show that was able to stand out on WWE television due to how much it resembled an Indy show. The show also featured so many beloved Indy stars and gave them a launchpad in their WWE career.
However, over the past few years, the show has undergone a mighty transition from its traditional black and gold days. For a while, it looked like NXT was going to be another faded WWE product that would get pushed to the back.
However, since Shawn Michaels has taken over as booker, he has made some interesting changes to the show. One of those changes was bringing in some notable main roster stars like Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley to appear on NXT.
Cody Rhodes, who served as GM for a night, spoke about NXT during an interview with ESPN. He credited Michaels for making NXT cool again and mentioned how many of the young talent are going to have Michaels as their first booker.
“Maybe one of the hardest things to do in all of sports and entertainment is to get a show that maybe lost its cool, and get it to be cool again. Shawn Michaels has done that, and he’s done it also while developing all these relationships with these young kids who are going to have Shawn Michaels as the first booker they dealt with, somebody who helped them with promos, somebody who helped them in their matches. It’s almost laughable if you say it because every one of those kids should come out being the best wrestler of all time, the best superstar of all time just because it’s Shawn Michaels.”
“I think history is going to be very kind to Shawn, not just as one of the greatest to ever do it, a hall of famer and all those things, but he took a show that, respectfully, had kind of lost some of its shine and he has absolutely brought it back to where it’s doing great numbers, we’re seeing a little crossover. It was a very fun experience for me to be in his house on that night. It was very special.”
Cody Rhodes will be seen at the 2024 Royal Rumble match where he will look to get one step closer to finishing his story at WrestleMania 40. Stay tuned to Ringside News for live coverage of the event.
