After achieving considerable success in NJPW over the past several years, Kazuchika Okada is scheduled to leave the promotion later this month and it now appears that he could be headed to WWE NXT.
As reported earlier, Kazuchika Okada is poised to become free agent at the end of January. The promotion has officially announced that Okada will be parting ways with the company after this month.
It was also reported that WWE has their eye on Kazuchika Okada and there is a chance WWE will end up snatching him up once he becomes a free agent if AEW doesn’t give him a big enough offer.
According to Monthly Puroresu, it was reported that Kazuchika Okada is likely heading to WWE. While unverified by Okada himself, a source close to NJPW’s top talent has indicated to Monthly Puroresu that Okada may be WWE-bound, potentially starting in NXT first.
“Although we’re unable to verify with The Rainmaker himself, one source close to NJPW’s top talent has indicated to Monthly Puroresu that it appears Okada is WWE bound, potentially starting in NXT first.”
Dave Meltzer previously mentioned on Wrestling Observer Radio that many within the company now believe that they have a better chance of signing Okada than in previous years. Meltzer acknowledged that WWE has pursued Okada for an extended period, and the current belief is that the timing might be more favorable for a potential deal.
“I think it’s kind of like overplayed in some ways. I mean, at the same time, when I wrote about it, it’s like it’s true. WWE wants Okada. They wanted Okada for how many years? But they do believe that maybe there’s a better chance of getting him now than before. And maybe there is.”
Kazuchika Okada’s Royal Rumble status following his NJPW departure has also been revealed. It is to be noted that WWE is eyeing Kazucihka Okada for WrestleMania 40. It remains to be seen whether Kazuchika Okada will debut in WWE this year, but it now seems to be the likely destination for The Rainmaker right now.
