WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has been a part of some of the biggest promotions in the wrestling business over the years. The years of experience came in handy for the 5-time WCW champion to weigh in on the potential of TNA Wrestling to ascend to a much higher level, currently captured by Tony Khan’s AEW.
The newly resurrected TNA (formerly known as IMPACT Wrestling) has been making the headlines ever since they decided to go back to their roots. After WWE vanquished its former competitor, WCW during the Monday Night Wars, TNA was the second biggest promotion during the 2000s for the wrestling fan base.
The TNA roster back in the day had some of the top names such as Sting, AJ Styles, Hulk Hogan, and Booker T himself. The former World Heavyweight Champion recently gave his opinion on TNA’s ability to reclaim that second-place spot that AEW has conquered since 2019. He spoke about the same on his Hall of Fame podcast.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. I think being a number three is pretty good. If you do it, right? I don’t think they should think past what they’re doing or anything like that. And try to think about trying to be number two or number one. I just think they just need to be Thin, and I think that people will love it. Just because I say that because when I was there back in 2008, I mean, 2009 2010, whatever it was. Yeah, 2010. Yeah. The crowd was crazy. They love some TNA. There was a buzz around TNA at that time, so if they could just get back to that. I think they’ll be okay.”
TNA brought back its branding at the recent Hard to Kill pay-per-view. Furthermore, going back to the roots surely kicked off a spectacular start as the company did the largest live gate for the company in about 10 years.
Not only that, TNA has also brought in major names such as former WWE superstars Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler) and Ash by Elegance (Dana Brooke). That has surely added a lot more credibility to the rebranding of the company.
With TNA ready to usher into a new era, it would be interesting to what they have in store for the fans that can possibly overtake promotions like AEW in the future.
Do you think TNA could recapture that second place? Will more top stars help them in their rebranding? Sound off in the comments!
