Vince McMahon’s tenure in WWE has been marked by inconsistent bookings and questionable choices over the past few years. This also had to do with the fact that he never pushed talented performers if he never felt they were worth his time and this included even Pete Dunne. McMahon also allegedly didn’t want Dunne to wrestle on the main roster at all.

In 2022, Vince McMahon introduced Pete Dunne to WWE’s main roster, rebranding him as Butch of The Brawling Brutes. The audience appeared to be unsupportive of the concept, and the gimmick persisted for an extended period under both the new and old regimes on the main roster.

While speaking on Muscle Man Malcolm, former WWE Superstar Mansoor talked about how Vince McMahon was against Pete Dunne competing on the main roster, noting that he just wanted Dunne to be a scrappy wrestler who just attacked people.

“Dude, Vince [McMahon] wanted Butch to be a guy that never wrestles. Vince wanted Butch, Pete Dunne, to be a scrappy little guy, who just attacks people, but he never wanted Butch to actually wrestle a match.”

Pete Dunne also got his name back on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, leaving Butch behind for good. It remains to be seen what WWE will have planned for him and Tyler Bate in the coming weeks.
