Kenny Omega recently signed a multi-year deal with AEW and was ready to go after the AEW World Tag Team Championships with Chris Jericho. Unfortunately, that couldn’t happen as he is out of action due to a sickness. Now it appears Omega is facing an indefinite hiatus as his surgery decision looms.
Kenny Omega shared that he was out of action and did not provide details about the nature of his injury. Omega mentioned that his doctors identified the issue at the right time. It was then reported that has been sick from diverticulitis.
As previously reported, Kenny Omega’s life hung in the balance as there was a 50% chance of death due to his severe illness. Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Kenny Omega’s surgery was delayed due to severe inflammation.
The decision on whether he requires surgery will be made in about 7 weeks based on his healing progress. If surgery is needed, it could extend his time away from the ring, and currently, there’s no set timeframe for his return.
”Regarding Kenny Omega’s health, due to the inflammation being so bad, he couldn’t have surgery at the time and as of last week still hadn’t had it. The decision will be made in about 7 weeks, based on his healing, on whether he’ll need surgery or not, but if he does, that would put him out of action significantly longer. There is no time frame on when he will return at this point.”
Kenny Omega is already making progress after his illness but it will be a long time until he is fit to make his in-ring return. Only time will tell whether Omega will require surgery. Till then, we would like to give him our best and wish him a speedy recovery so that he can return to doing what he loves the best as soon as possible.
