Oba Femi won the Men’s Breakout Tournament and earned the right to challenge for a title. He did just that on NXT last week and became the NXT North American Champion. He is billed as a 22 year old but now it appears his mother cleared the air on this matter.
Oba Femi might not be a name familiar to many WWE fans, as he signed with the promotion through NXT’s Next In Line program. Despite debuting on the brand almost a year later, it wasn’t until last week that Femi truly stepped into the spotlight by winning the North American Title.
Femi is considered the youngest NXT North American Champion in history at the age of 22, surpassing Velveteen Dream’s record, who was 23 when he won the title. However, that record might not be based on solid grounds.
A recent discussion about Oba Femi’s age led to his mom getting involved. While not denying the teaching of a tough mentality, she clarified that the wrestling world is mistaken about her son’s age.
A fan on social media arguing that Femi is 22, was likely surprised to find out that the person they were debating with turned out to be Femi’s mother. His mother stated that Oba Femi is actually 25 years old and not 22. If one checks out her Instagram account, it is most certainly Oba Femi’s mother.
”25.‘ ”He is my son darling. I am his mother. Love you.”
Femi hails from Nigeria, a country where issues of age misinformation have been a concern for decades. Even Google has his name listed incorrectly.
In various instances, Nigerian soccer players have been known to falsify their ages to make themselves more appealing to potential teams. While it’s not necessarily the case with Femi, the confusion about his age might be attributed to inaccurate information circulating on the internet.
