AEW experienced notable surprises recently, with one of them being Deonna Purrazzo’s debut for the company last week. Now, she has finally revealed how her AEW deal came together.

Deonna Purrazzo faced off against Red Velvet in her debut match for the company during last week’s episode of AEW Collision. She would be successful in her debut match as well.

While speaking to Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho, Deonna Purrazzo discussed the circumstances leading to her AEW debut. Feeling it was the right time to leave TNA Wrestling, Purrazzo credited Britt Baker for connecting her with Tony Khan.

The New Year’s Dynamite episode in her hometown of Jersey was the perfect setting, turning her AEW debut into a dream come true for many reasons.

So, I knew my contract was coming up in IMPACT and I just kind of felt like if it was time to leave, it would be now. If this was the territories, now would be the time to leave, right? And Britt Baker actually connected me with Tony Khan and we just got to talking and I knew the first Dynamite of the new year, it was gonna be in Jersey, that’s where I’m from. So I was like, ‘That would be a dream scenario, dream come true if we could do that’ and it all worked out.

Deonna Purrazzo also clapped back at her body-shamers following her in-ring debut. Purrazzo is set to square off against Anna Jay on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, so we’ll have to wait and see how she will fare in the match.
