WWE has a lot of things they can do to get their money’s worth out of a Superstar. They certainly want to make sure that injuries are no reason not to get as many dates as they can.
The Viking Raiders haven’t been seen on WWE television as a duo in quite some time. The company is pushing Ivar on his own, and there is a reason for that. Erik is out of action, and he needed neck fusion surgery, so he will be out of action for quite some time.
Erik last appeared in a wrestling match on the September 14th episode of WWE Main Event, which was recorded on September 11th. While he was scheduled to compete on the September 18th episode of WWE Raw, he was ultimately unable to participate.
Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall on his Backstage Report podcast that Erik’s contract is going to be extended due to the time he missed from injury.
“Erik’s is going to be extended due to injury time. He had a major neck injury. That’s the only detail I have on that.”
WWE has used Ivar on his own since Erik was taken out of action. That has been a way to keep him on television, which is not the way Vince McMahon used to treat injured tag team wrestlers, as the entire team would historically sit out of action.
We will have to see how long it takes for the Viking Raiders to make their way back to television. Only time will tell what they are able to do once they make their long-awaited return to the tag team ranks.
What’s your take on Erik’s in-ring absence? Is WWE making good use of Ivar in the meantime? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
