AEW President Tony Khan, known for his passion for the wrestling business, recently experienced another Twitter debacle that hurt his reputation. While fans clearly think less of him now, many backstage in AEW also aren’t happy about Tony Khan’s actions on Twitter.
This all started from a troll tweet from The USA Network account. This led to Tony Khan going to Twitter to defend his booking decisions and his company. He pointed out a “double standard,” drawing a comparison between Jinder Mahal’s win-loss record and the record of Hook, the AEW World Champion contender.
“A double standard: @730hook 28-1 career record, on winning streak calls out the Champ, a logical challenge sparks online outrage Jinder has literally lost every single match he’s in for the past year, immediately gets title shot, where is the rage #AEWDynamite TOMORROW on TBS.“
Jinder Mahal had a very apt response to Tony Khan and got a ton of support from others online. Even Booker T recently came to Jinder Mahal’s defense and criticized Tony Khan for his bizarre rant.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez shared some backstage reactions from AEW, revealing that there were individuals within the company expressing embarrassment over Tony Khan’s Twitter behavior. Despite this, Khan might view it as a way to get more engagement through his tweets.
“Here’s the thing, I got a lot of tweets, it was the exact same thing as last time, I got a lot of tweets from people in AEW who were like ‘Why is he doing this on Twitter? This is embarrassing.’
“That’s what they said, they said it last time too, I’m sure he’s aware of it.
“But he sees this as ‘look at all this engagement I get for these tweets and then I can tweet out some promotion for some matches for Wednesday and it’ll help boost the rating’, that’s why he does it.”
The AEW President was also targeted for letting tweets affect him during the social media rant. Nevertheless, fans hope that Tony Khan will eventually recognize that taking part in such petty antics may only harm his reputation without yielding any positive results for the company.
