Gable Steveson inked a deal with WWE long ago and it took time a considerable amount of time for him to even compete in the ring. Lately, he has been competing in dark matches but has had nothing on television for a long time. While Steveson’s WWE television status remains uncertain, the Minnesota Golden Gophers coach has confirmed that Steveson won’t be wrestling this year.

While speaking to the Star Tribune, Minnesota Golden Gophers coach Brandon Eggum confirmed that Gable Steveson won’t be wrestling for the team in 2024, which would have been his final season of eligibility.

Eggum mentioned that the decision is based on the WWE’s preference for Steveson to focus solely on his professional wrestling career at this time. Despite Steveson not competing in collegiate wrestling, Eggum expressed gratitude for the impact he had on the program and made it clear he was very excited about Steveson’s WWE career.

Unfortunately, he will not be able to compete for us this season. He’s a great competitor, he’s always wanted to compete for the University of Minnesota. But ultimately, the WWE would prefer that he solely focus on his professional wrestling career at this time. We just can’t thank him enough for the impact he’s had on our program. We love following him and watching him compete on the mat. He’s amazing, and now we’re excited to watch him in his WWE career.”

Gable Steveson made a surprise appearance at the WWE SmackDown: New Year’s Revolution event held in Vancouver. He was involved in a dark match against Cedric Alexander before the main event but nothing more than that.

Steveson is expected to continue wrestling in dark matches on Friday Night SmackDown but there are no plans to bring him in for the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the young WWE Superstar.
