Scotty 2 Hotty requested his release from WWE back in 2021 and spent some time working all over the world, before working as a producer for an AEW Dynamite episode back in July last year.
While speaking on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Scotty 2 Hotty revealed how he ended up getting the role of producer/coach in AEW in the first place. Hotty noted that the opportunity arose when Sonjay Dutt reached out to him.
The former WWE Superstar admitted that the offer came at an unexpected time. Despite having a prior commitment with a five-week tour of Europe in November, he accepted the opportunity and started in July, taking a hiatus for the tour and returning recently.
”So it was kind of out of nowhere (AEW coach/producer opportunity). I’ve done a lot in Europe over the last couple of years wrestling-wise and I was in Europe in July and I got a message from Sonjay Dutt and asking if I’d be interested in trying out as a coach and producer and it was exciting. It kind of came out of nowhere. The only thing was at the time, with like you said, I had a five-week tour of Europe booked for November. So I did. I start at the end of July and then I worked up to almost Halloween and then I left for five weeks and then I just returned last week so, it’s kind of like I started and it definitely was put on pause and then I came back so I’m excited now to really get into the groove and really dive in and start working with people.”
Last year, Scotty 2 Hotty made his AEW in-ring debut in Orlando at New Year’s Smash, where he teamed up with The Acclaimed and squared off against the Gunns, Matt Menard and Jake Hager.
Scotty 2 Hotty’s AEW in-ring debut was also in the works for a while. Hotty is clearly having a great time working backstage in AEW and he wouldn’t have it any other way right now.
