Santos Escobar attacked Rey Mysterio – turning heel in the process back in November. This was a way to write him off WWE television as Rey Mysterio recently underwent knee surgery. Mysterio is now on the road to recovery and he hopes to be able to return by the Royal Rumble.
Prior to his absence, The Master of The 619 lost the United States Championship to Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel. Naturally, fans wondered what WWE would have planned for Mysterio after his loss.
Rey Mysterio had previously noted around Christmas last year that he was at the 4-week mark of his recovery. While speaking on Baker Banter, Mysterio was asked about him returning at the Royal Rumble.
The WWE Hall of Famer made it clear that he hopes to make his return at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event on January 27th. Obviously, fans would want that to happen as well.
I’m really working hard on my physical therapy. I just had knee surgery, thanks to Santos Escobar, and his time will come eventually. I do hope that I can return for the Rumble, if not shortly after that. I am working very hard to make my return as soon as possible.”
It is likely he will begin feuding with either Santos Escobar or Logan Paul upon his return, so we’ll have to see what WWE has planned for him, especially if he returns at the Royal Rumble this month.
As a reminder, Ringside News will be providing live play-by-play coverage of the event in our Royal Rumble results hub.
