Pat McAfee was a mainstay of WWE television but he’s been away for a while because of his non-WWE duties. He recently accused an ESPN higher-up of sabotaging his show and how ESPN has responded to McAfee’s accusations.
In May 2023, Pat McAfee departed from a lucrative $120 million, four-year contract with FanDuel to sign a multi-million dollar deal with ESPN for his show. This significant move explains his absence from WWE television, highlighting the substantial career shift McAfee made at that time.
During an episode of his show, Pat McAfee discussed maintaining a positive relationship with ESPN but accused Norby Williamson of attempting to undermine and sabotage their program. McAfee voiced frustration with the release of misinformation, especially concerning ratings, and indicated a perceived pattern of sabotage throughout the season from those critical of the show’s integration into the ESPN family.
According to a report by Deadline, an ESPN spokesperson responded to the accusations made by Pat McAfee. ESPN stated that they would be handling the matter internally and had no further comment.
“No one is more committed to and invested in ESPN’s success than Norby Williamson. At the same time, we are thrilled with the multi-platform success that we have seen from The Pat McAfee Show across ESPN. We will handle this matter internally and have no further comment.”
Pat McAfee hasn’t been seen on WWE television since October last year when he appeared prior to the tag team match between John Cena & LA Knight and The Bloodline at the Fastlane Premium Live Event. It remains to be seen when McAfee will be able to return to WWE television again.
