Will Ospreay is not short of confidence as he sets his sights on capturing the coveted IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship. Unsurprisingly, he ended up calling for a ceasefire with Jox Moxley ahead of Wrestle Kingdom 18.
In a noteworthy development, Jon Moxley, Will Ospreay, and David Finlay are set to face off at the Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2024, to determine the inaugural IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion. This newly introduced championship will take the place of the discontinued IWGP United States/United Kingdom Heavyweight Championship.
The company even introduced the new IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship during the official Wrestle Kingdom 18 press conference. However, that’s not all that happened at the conference.
Will Ospreay extended an offer to Jon Moxley, proposing that they collaborate for the initial five minutes of their upcoming match and take out David Finlay, so as to give fans what they really wanted to see, a singles match between Ospreay and Moxley.
“This is a match between me and Moxley, (David Finlay), you don’t belong here. I am willing to offer a ceasefire for the first five minutes.
“Me and you work together to get rid of Finlay and then we can have the singles match we wanted. To sweeten the deal I have two non alcoholic beers.”
Ospreay and Moxley had a previous bout at the NJPW Windy City Riot event in April 2022, where Moxley secured victory by pinning Ospreay in the main event. Their only other shared ring experience was during the IWGP US Title four-way match in May of the same year. In this match, Juice Robinson emerged victorious, defeating Ospreay, Moxley, and the champion Hiroshi Tanahashi at NJPW Collision 2022. We will have to wait and see who will end up becoming the champion at Wrestle Kingdom 18 this week.
As a reminder, Ringside News will be providing live play-by-play coverage of the event over in our Wrestle Kingdom hub. Coverage of the event will kick off at 1:30AM ET. Keep checking back for any late breaking news, rumors and spoilers heading into the show.
