Groundwork for Kevin Dunn’s WWE Departure Was Laid Months Ago

WWE saw plenty of surprises in 2023, and the year wrapped up with a big shocker as Kevin Dunn is leaving the company.

Kevin Dunn’s departure from WWE has taken some professional wrestling fans by surprise, as they have eagerly anticipated this move for quite some time. Although he previously served as the Executive Producer & Chief of Global Television Distribution, reports initially suggested that Dunn informed others about his decision to leave WWE during Christmas week, but that particular detail isn’t entirely accurate.

Kevin Dunn’s departure is not entirely surprising. With McMahon’s influence diminishing post-Endeavor and TKO Group Holdings’ acquisition, Dunn’s exit now holds significant implications.

A WWE source with knowledge of the transition told Ringside News that, “It is not unexpected. The groundwork has been laid for the past two months.”

Despite ongoing rumors of departure, WWE never mandated Kevin Dunn’s exit. In fact, the WWE Board of Directors reportedly encouraged him to stay when Vince McMahon initially retired in July 2022.

It was previously noted that one crucial factor in Kevin Dunn’s decision appears to be tied to internal shifts after Endeavor’s acquisition of WWE. Sources suggest that Dunn resisted following directives, which went against some of the things from his previous role that he was doing for years. There were reportedly conflicting views on how television production should be managed, and it appears that Kevin Dunn is no longer with the company now.

We will have to see what 2024 brings WWE fans. This was a shock for fans to see Kevin Dunn go, but it was apparently not a huge surprise within the company.
