Gunther is in the middle of an iconic run as the Intercontinental Champion in WWE. The Ring General continues to dominate the competition and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he has accomplished a rare feat that hasn’t been done since 2007.
The Ring General won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June last year and has since defended it quite a few times already. With each win, Gunther’s stock continues to rise and he becomes more and more dominating.
He is already the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history, but no one has been able to truly step up to time. Gunther recently engaged in a feud with The Miz. He successfully defended the title against The A-Lister at Survivor Series and continued his winning streak with another victory over the former WWE Champion on the December 18 edition of RAW.
The Wrestling Stats & Info account took to Twitter and pointed out that Gunther is set to achieve a notable feat by becoming the first superstar since Jeff Hardy in 2007 to both start and end a year as the Intercontinental Champion.
‘‘Years that started & ended with the same Superstar as @WWE IC Champion:
*the same, uninterrupted reign began & ended the year.”
Gunther recently welcomed his son into the world, which was a joyous occasion for himself and fans as well. We will have to wait and see when the Austrian megastar will make his triumphant return to WWE television.
