Scotty 2 Hotty was released by WWE in 2007, and he returned as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center in 2016. However, he requested his release from the company back in 2021. He finally made his in-ring debut for AEW during Dynamite this week and now he has broken his silence on the matter.
The former WWE Superstar gave his all as a coach for developmental wrestlers in NXT and made it clear he loved his time there. However, Scotty 2 Hotty also hated walking on eggshells during his time in NXT.
After his WWE departure, Scotty 2 Hotty competed in the independent scene. He would then work as a producer for a previous episode of AEW Dynamite and eventually became a coach there.
Surprisingly enough, Scotty 2 Hotty made his AEW debut in Orlando at New Year’s Smash, where he teamed up with The Acclaimed and squared off against the Gunns, Matt Menard and Jake Hager.
Scotty 2 Hotty took to Twitter and uploaded a few videos and photos of himself during his AEW in-ring debut, as he made it clear it was wonderful for his kids to witness what he did. He further thanked Billy Gunn and Tony Khan for making it happen in the first place.
”Last night I was able to do this in an arena with my kids in the audience for the first time that they are old enough to remember it. Thank you to @RealBillyGunn & @TonyKhan for making this happen. A personal career highlight for me.”
Scotty 2 Hotty’s AEW in-ring debut was also in the works for a while. It is evident that AEW has some plans for Scotty 2 Hotty. It’s great to see that he is still more than able to work a match, capable of surprising the crowd with an unexpected and enthusiastic reception.
