On the December 8th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Charlotte Flair faced Asuka in a solid bout. The Queen lost to The Empress of Tomorrow after Bayley interfered in the match. Flair got injured in the process and is out of action now. That said, Eric Bischoff believes Flair’s injury opens the door for Mercedes Mone’s WWE return.
What followed raised concerns among fans and WWE talent alike. Reports started circulating that Charlotte Flair possibly got injured during the match. In a distressing moment, she was seen clutching her knee and crying out, “My knee!” Medical personnel rushed to her side after the match, as fans were concerned for her health.
During WWE SmackDown last week, it was revealed that Charlotte Flair will be out of action for 9 months due to a knee injury. Charlotte Flair will be undergoing knee surgery next year as well.
Mercedes Mone left WWE after walking out on an episode of Monday Night RAW back in May last year, but many believe she will finally return to WWE soon. While speaking on his Strictly Business podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff stated that he believes Flair’s injury opens the door for Mercedes Mone’s WWE return.
“I tend to look at things analytically, or I try, so if I’m Sasha Banks, here’s what I’m excited about, or Mercedes Mone, either one. [I’m] equally as excited for both, because she’s got a great relationship. She has an established market value. There’s anticipation, she’s obviously got a fan base,” Bischoff said. “Oh, and Charlotte’s down for a while. That creates, oh what’s it called – opportunity. You’ve got all that over here [in WWE] on this side of the equation … If either [Sasha Banks or Mercedes Mone], or both of them, decided they wanted to make a move to AEW currently, does that make any sense at all? I think not, but maybe I’m wrong.
She’s gotten the leverage, and if Sasha Banks wants, [or] Mercedes wants to just go do her thing somewhere and ride it out at AEW until whatever happens, happens, be a part of a big resurgence perhaps, or be on the ship when it goes down, that would be a really bad choice. There’s too much money on the table. She’s too smart to make not smart decisions.”
Mercedes Mone also recently posted some WWE-related cryptic posts to further fuel rumors. Mercedes Mone’s asking price for a new contract is also ludicrously high. She is also not signed with any pro wrestling company right now. We will have to wait and see what the future holds for Mercedes Mone.
