Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is set to star in the upcoming film “Red One,” alongside Chris Evans. The movie also features an ensemble cast including J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Wesley Kimmel.
The film will be produced by The Rock, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia from Seven Bucks Productions, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. It is directed by Jake Kasdan, known for his work on “Jumanji,” and written by Chris Morgan, who previously collaborated with The Rock on the Fast and Furious spinoff movie, “Hobbs & Shaw.”
Described by The Rock as a blend of action, comedy, and holiday magic, “Red One” promises to be a fresh take on Christmas. It draws inspiration from various genres, including “Jumanji,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” “Hobbs & Shaw,” “Harry Potter,” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
According to Deadline, the film was initially planned for a 2023 holiday release but has been rescheduled. It is now set to have an exclusive global theatrical release on November 15, 2024, before becoming available on Amazon Prime.
