Chris Hero is a true veteran in the world of professional wrestling, who became a major star by competing in the independent circuit as well as bigger pro wrestling promotions. He made his way to AEW but hasn’t competed there yet. In fact, he turned down two opportunities to work with Chris Jericho.
Hero also had two stints in WWE before getting released by the company in April 2020 as part of the COVID-19 budget cuts. Chris Hero was also part of AEW Collision’s debut, where he produced quite few matches for the show.
He then confirmed his role as a coach in AEW as well. That being said, Hero already made his return to the ring back in November, ending a three-year hiatus from the squared circle.
While speaking with Talk is Jericho, Chris Hero explained why he turned down offers to wrestle Chris Jericho in AEW. It ultimately came down to the fact that the timings for both occasions were not ideal.
“How do you turn down an opportunity like that once let alone twice, you know? (Hero said about Labours of Jericho & ROH World Title match offers) So it’s a little embarrassing on my behalf but, the nature of AEW, things are very, I don’t wanna say last minute but things are just… it’s just the pace is so fast and quick and there’s this and you’re onto this or whatever and I just thought — I think it was maybe in Chicago I think. I think you wrestled (Tomohiro) Ishii and I was like, okay, one, can I get ready in eight days? Can I get gear in eight days? Because I still have my Kassius Ohno stuff. That wasn’t even on my radar as far as I need to get gear made. It’s like, well what shape is my body gonna be in when I have a match? So, it was hard to say no to but at the same time, things had kind of worked out.”
Chris Hero also teamed with KENTA and faced off against Kevin Blackwood and Titus Alexander at the West Coast Pro event on December 3. We’ll have to see what’s next in store for him.
