William Regal was just settling into his place in AEW, as leader of the Blackpool Combat Club, and it seemed that he would be someone that Tony Khan could use in a variety of roles. Then things changed in WWE, because Triple H, William Regal’s long-time friend, took a position of power that would allow him to extend an executive position his way.
William Regal got Tony Khan to allow him out of his AEW contract, but a one-year clause was put in place prohibiting him from appearing on WWE television. This is why William Regal wasn’t allowed to announce WarGames, even though he is with the company as Vice President of Global Talent Development.
That one-year clause is running up for William Regal, meaning he can appear on television again. During Wrestling Observer Radio, however, Dave Meltzer noted that he has heard of no plans to make that happen.
“I haven’t heard anything about Regal being on TV, but I haven’t asked, either.”
We will have to see if William Regal shows up on WWE television in some capacity in the next few weeks. If anything, Regal will certainly be around to announce WarGames is happening in 2024.
Triple H could use William Regal in a few ways, on any WWE brand. Regal is a former manager and authority figure, and he also currently has a great gig in WWE as Vice President of Global Talent Development. His son, Charlie Dempsey, is also in NXT, and he is thriving.
Needless to say, William Regal has a lot of reasons to be very happy about his WWE position, even if they don’t bring him back to television on a regular basis.
