Kenny Omega is out of action with a case of diverticulitis, a bad illness that can take out the biggest competitor, no matter who they are. Now, we have some updates about the events surrounding his illness.
We previously reported that Excalibur was busted making a diverticulitis from years ago. That was not a good look for them. Then again, the diverticulitis move is also given to the F5 in the AEW: Fight Forever game, something that Omega had nothing to do with.
Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall to give more information about Kenny Omega’s diverticulitis situation. It was stated that his illness was kept very close to the vest prior to this match against Ethan Page.
Fightful has learned that Kenny Omega felt ill even before the AEW Collision match with Ethan Page in Canada, but kept it very close to the vest. Things had worsened by the following week’s AEW Dynamite, but Omega still showed up, thinking he’d only be working in a backstage capacity. However, he ended up doing a live promo with Chris Jericho.
It was also reported that, “Several backstage at AEW Dynamite Wednesday said they could tell that Omega was not feeling his best, but was still trying to get through the show.”
After Dynamite on Wednesday, Omega pursued medical attention. Following doctor’s orders, he was hospitalized on Thursday, and it was diagnosed that Omega had diverticulitis. No specific timeline for Omega’s return has been provided, but indications suggest his exclusion from imminent AEW plans.
Apart from the likelihood of Omega missing AEW World’s End and the tag team title match partnering with Chris Jericho against Ricky Starks and Big Bill, preliminary arrangements for Omega to compete on the upcoming Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite have been shelved.
We’re wishing Kenny Omega the best on his road to recovery. Hopefully, this won’t be a long hiatus from the ring, but we do not have any in-ring return date at this time.
