AEW is always looking to do something different to keep its fans engaged with the current product, one way or the other. Their latest idea was to introduce their own version of the G1 Climax tournament – the Continental Classic. The tournament has been a huge hit with fans and now Khan has confirmed it will be returning next year.

Tony Khan introduced the Continental Classic tournament last year, which is a round-robin competition that saw 12 stars compete weekly in matches. The tournament started on November 22nd in Chicago – with the finals taking place on December 27th in Orlando.

So far, the Continental Classic has given birth to several classic matches for fans as the likes of Swerve Strickland, RUSH, Mark Briscoe, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley have all given career-defining performances thus far.

While speaking during the post-ROH Final Battle Media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan was asked about the future of the Continental Classic. Khan made it clear that the tournament will be back next year.

We’re still going through the first one, I wanna finish this Continental Classic and focus on it, really, in the thick of, it’s just going so well. The fans have stepped up, I think it’s fair to say the fans put their money where their mouth is. The show has been going great, the episodes, our AEW television events are doing outstanding and we’ve seen lifts week after week in ratings. I am attributing a lot of that to the Continental Classic and the support of the wrestling fans. Certainly, you can see more involvement next year. The way it’s going, I’d say it’s a safe bet to say it will be back next year for the Continental Classic.”’

We will have to wait and see who will end up winning the Continental Classic tournament, as that talent will become the first-ever Triple Crown Champion in AEW – a worthy achievement for any of the competitors.

What’s your opinion on what Tony Khan had to say? Are you glad the tournament will be returning? Let us know in the comments!
