WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has accomplished a lot in his long and illustrious pro wrestling career, but that doesn’t mean he has been able to do everything he wanted to in his career. This includes a match with CM Punk, that never came to fruition.
The Summer of Punk back in 2011 was supposed to be one of the best things featuring The Second City Saint. After all, he was the WWE Champion and was arguably the biggest star in the company.
However, Kevin Nash got involved for some reason and CM Punk’s storyline suffered greatly for it. They didn’t even compete in a match, as that honor went to Triple H instead of Punk – who faced Nash in a widely-panned match.
While speaking on the latest episode of his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash discussed the storyline and stated that Triple H was irritated by CM Punk. He hen added that Triple H sabotaged the whole storyline, ensuring that Nash never faced Punk.
“It’s funny now that Vince has taken a backseat to this whole thing, that I see Paul, he owns it now. Like, he has ownership of that company as far as, when they say he’s creative. His demeanor, he is in completely control of that situation. There has never been anybody of his talent in the ring…he was with us and we were all ruthless and we were all very driven for our success. It’s such a different Paul now. When I was supposed to wrestle Punk, he got under Triple H’s skin so bad. Paul just came up to me and said, ‘I’m going to beat him. You’re not going to wrestle him. I’m beating him.’ Cool. That’s why me and Punk never wrestled. He made the call, ‘I gotta beat this f*****.’“
Because of this, the match between Nash and Punk was scrapped, and Triple H faced CM Punk at Night of Champions 2011 instead. Regardless, this will remain one of WWE’s biggest blunders and that’s not changing anytime soon.
