Jon Moxley remains one of the top stars in AEW as the company heavily relies upon him whenever it is in a pinch. Therefore, it comes as no surprise he values pro wrestlers getting belts over instead of the other way around.
The Purveyor of Violence is no stranger to success in the world of professional wrestling, as he won numerous titles during his time in WWE and he is also a three-time AEW World Champion to boot.
While speaking to Chris Mueller of Bleacher Report, Jon Moxley talked about the number of titles the winner will walk away with after winning the Continental Classic tournament. Moxley made it clear that he believes it’s not the belts that put pro wrestlers over – it’s the pro wrestlers who put over the belts.
”There’s a lot of belts,” Moxley said. “Belts come and go. They’re what you make them. I’ve never seen a belt get anyone over in my life, personally. I’ve seen people get belts over. They come and go, and they’re devices. If you treat them as important, they become important. If you treat them like a joke, they become a joke. People don’t pack arenas to look at shiny pieces of metal and jewels.”
Jon Moxley is currently part of the Continental Classic tournament and has secured 9 points in the tournament already. He is set to square off against Swerve Strickland on AEW Dynamite Winter Is Coming next week, so it remains to be seen who will come out on top.
Do you agree with Jon Moxley’s view that it’s the wrestlers who make the belts significant rather than the other way around? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments.
