Matt Hardy is a true veteran in the pro wrestling business, having constantly reinvented himself over the years. Due to his extensive knowledge of the pro wrestling world, his opinion is taken seriously all the time. Hardy was part of a major angle with Randy Orton prior to his WWE departure in 2020 and now Hardy believes WWE tried to lure him to re-sign with the company with that feud.
The Hardys made their return to WWE in 2017 at WrestleMania 33 and would remain with the company for a few years afterwards. Matt Hardy was feuding with Randy Orton in February 2020 as part of Orton’s major feud with Edge at the time.
Matt Hardy would be hit with multiple chair shots in what would be his final appearance for the company before he went to AEW in March 2020. While speaking during the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy was asked about some of his favourite Randy Orton moments.
The former WWE Superstar noted that he liked his final storyline with Randy Orton and stated that he believes WWE tried to lure him to re-sign with the company with that feud.
”One of my favorite moments with Randy, as crazy as this is, was right before I left in those last three years, where we did the promo and I came out to take up for Adam Copeland and then he attacks me, then I have this brace on my neck and that was initially going to be it. But the segment, Vince loved the segments so much, he loved the interaction, he loved our character work and apparently, it did a decent number too.
So then I came back the next week and I was going to originally have a virtually three-segment match. And then I was going to wrestle him after having this neck brace on, my neck was broken or fractured or whatever. And it ended up changing because I think that was a bone they were trying to throw me to try and get me to re-sign, and maybe I’d do it if I was in this angle with Randy, they were promising me some other stuff with Bray and The Fiend going forward.”
Matt Hardy also recently expressed frustrations with his and Jeff Hardy’s position in AEW. Regardless, only time will tell whether Tony Khan will have something substantial planned for The Hardys.
